Male and female students of the public and private schools that follow the Ministry of Education curriculum, and kindergartens in the various emirates of the country, regularly attended the first semester, which was launched in the first stages of the 2021-2022 academic year, and includes three educational patterns (presence, hybrid and virtual), all of them simulating the students in different stages of education, amid various precautionary procedures and health protocols, as School Administrations made flexible schedules for students attendance enabling them for the available education patterns.

Schools shall receive 50% of the students during the first week of the study, and 100% in the second week in accordance with the approved gradual return plan, with an emphasize on the importance of obtaining the vaccine against the Corona pandemic (COVID-19), and (PCR) test to ensure the health status stability of the students and all educational community groups.

The first studying day witnessed varying rates of absence in some schools, because all students weren't be able to obtain the result of the “PCR” test, and the Emirates Foundation for School Education allowed them to attend today(Monday), while the school administrations were keen, through the work teams formed to start the school daily attendance, to apply the safe return procedures by ensuring that students obtained a negative “PCR” nasal swab, measuring their temperatures, and arranging their entry from the buses to school.

The concerned teams followed up the application of social distancing procedures inside the classrooms, during the two scheduled breaks, upon using the facilities, and the extent to which students adhere to the procedures, including wearing the masks, providing the sterilization tools, and other precautionary procedures during the school day.

On their side, the parents praised the return of schools instead of the remote education, and demanded that a PCR test be conducted in the schools to facilitate the students, especially since the younger children can conduct a saliva test for them to facilitate and speed up the sample collection process, in addition to that the school nurses are trained to take a nasal swab for the older students.

221 private schools and educational partnership schools received their students, however a few private schools apologized to parents for not being able to receive their children due to the delay for obtaining the licenses of their school clinics by the concerned authorities. Parents were informed that their children will receive a remote learning through the Microsoft Teams program from first grade to secondary stage, until they are informed of any updates as issued by the department.

The Castles erected in the oases used the rocks made from clay and hay.
Seven of the most prominent UAE Castles were transformed into unique tourist destinations that take their visitors on a thrilling journey into the depths of history.
Al Jahili Fort is located in the southeastern region of Al Ain, near Al Ain Palace Museum . Its construction started in 1891 under the rule of the late Sheikh Zayed the First and it was completed in the same year. In addition to using the Castle for military purposes, it occupied an ideal location for military operations, as it is located close to water sources and surrounded by fertile agriculture land.
Visitors of Al Fahidi Fort travel through time to recognize a past that is full of trophies engraved in the national memory. This Fort that was constructed in 1787 to protect Dubai and it is  considered the most ancient building there.
Dibba Al-Hisn Fort represents a live narration of the ancient history of the city which narrates the incidents that have occurred in the region. Further, it is distinguished by its architectural character and privileged location over the hills of that region.
The Fort is one of the most important monuments in this ancient city, noting that the modern archaeological discoveries supported what the historical references mentioned about Dibba and its ancient history, confirming that it is one of the oldest inhabited cities in the UAE. The Fort was constructed using stones, clay and plaster, and it is topped with two towers in its southwestern and northwestern sides. The fence is centered by a squared section in its northern side in addition to a small squared section in the northeastern side.
Inside the Fort, there are two wells; one on the western side, next to the tower and close to a large Sidr (Lote) tree, and the second is located on the northeast side and close to another Sidr (Lote) tree, in addition to a medium-sized mosque next to them.
Masfout Castle is located on the northern border of Masfout region, 120 kilometers southeast of Ajman. The castle was built by stone, clay and local timber and it consists of two rooms and one gate. In late 1940, the tower-style castle was restored at the request of the late Sheikh Rashid bin Humaid Al Nuaimi.
Falaj Al Mualla Castle was built in 1800 approximately in Umm al Quwain and it consists of a squared building with two towers on the northeastern and southwestern sided, a large majlis with lobbies overlooking an internal courtyard in addition to many watchtowers.
In 2015, the Castle witnessed an overall restoration in addition to a museum that embodies the ancestors’ legend and the past of the region.
Built in the sixteenth century, Dhaya Castle is one of the most important castles in Ras Al Khaimah as it was erected on the top of a high hill overlooking the Arabian Gulf, and was surrounded by a rocky fence stuffed with gravel to form a flat surface. The architectural type and location selected by the inhabitants for the Castle reflect the defense mechanism adopted by the Emiratis to protect their land, as the Castle, restored in 2001, is considered the only fort that still exists on the top of a hill in the state.
Fujairah Fort is one of the most distinguished forts in the UAE and it was built on a high hill in the ancient Fujairah area and its building rises to about 20 m. above sea level.  The Castle that was built in the period 1500 -1550 witnessed many circumstances that led to collapse and damage of its walls and it was rebuilt in the period 1650-1700 before its first renovation in 1925 and second renovation in the mid-sixties. In the period 1998-2000, the Department of Antiquities and Heritage made a comprehensive restoration of the Castle and its towers.

Press Release

Ras Al Khaimah Tourism Development Authority (RAK TDA) announced its intention to launch several initiatives aimed at supporting its partners across hospitality sector during the COVID-19 crisis and developing solid foundations for its future recovery plan.

In a step reflecting the Emirate’s commitment to transparency, enterprise promotion and global community spirit and under the theme “ONE RAK”, RAK TDA shared its comprehensive crisis response plan with all its industry partners, and provided them with short to medium term solutions to mitigate the negative impact of the novel Coronavirus on the tourism sector in Ras Al Khaimah.

Addressing partners and stakeholders via a virtual meeting, CEO Raki Phillips highlighted that the hospitality industry was facing a grave threat from the coronavirus.  The UNWTO estimates losses from international visitor spends to be between $30-50 billion globally, while the World Travel and Tourism Council has found up to 50 million jobs have been put at risk
RAKTDA's prompt robust response sees the creation of an internal Stimulus Committee and Steering Stimulus Committee representing the emirate. Led by Raki Phillips and top executives across the hospitality, leisure and development sectors. Initiatives supporting the tourism sector include: a six-month fee exemption on tourism licenses; exemption on “Tourism Dirham” fees as of March until May; full exemption from tourism licensing fees for Q2-Q3, and exemption from tourism licensing fines until September 30. This support will be further enhanced by a dedicated Financial Incentive Package for non-government owned touristic entities, including a budget, midscale and 4-star hotels as well as attractions, golf courses and other tourism establishments, the tourism authority said, adding that in addition to this, hospitality partners will be able to benefit from complimentary participation in a diverse array of exhibitions and roadshows set to take place in 2020 and 2021 within the emirate and abroad.

RAKTDA's move complements 17 government initiatives (10 for individuals and seven for SMEs) announced by the Ministry of Economy, in addition to support by local developers, which includes three-month rental relief for residents and corporations, as well as the deferral of fees. Alongside the tourism initiatives, RAKTDA is focusing on tourism development and boosting the international presence of the Emirate through a suite of destination marketing strategies and reinforced promotion of the established Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions facilities, to revive the travel sector.

“Ras Al Khaimah Tourism Development Authority fully understands and shares the concerns of its business partners and guests concerning the COVID-19 outbreak, which is significantly disrupting the global travel and tourism industry. It is imperative that we are transparent in our communications and work together to find solutions to this very challenging situation,” said Phillips during the virtual meeting.

Its four-step road to recovery places initial focus on the domestic market, followed by the GCC and wider Middle East, to then be extended to Asia and Europe. Raki Phillips highlighted the return of the Russian market as a major driver of recovery, especially that it accounted for the largest number of visitors to the emirate in 2019. Conference participants emphasized the importance of scheduled flights as a major source of visitor flow to the emirate. In this regard, Phillips added: “Over time, governments are likely to take the initiative and identify safe and appropriate travel corridors to reactivate the aviation and travel sectors towards destinations that take strict measures to curb the spread of the infection, and those who have succeeded in overcoming this crisis.”

The plan also includes several promotional campaigns, such as the promotion of short holidays campaign, which targets citizens and residents of the UAE and allow guests booking a three-night stay in Ras Al Khaimah to obtain two free tickets for the emirate’s landmarks such as Jais Adventure Peak and Al Suwaidi Pearls Farm. With the aim of enhancing the tourist offers and options offered by the emirate, RAK TDA decided to bring back the free child accommodation and meals offer in order to encourage families to go to the emirate once restrictions are lifted.
As the world continues its efforts to curb the spread of the epidemic that negatively affected the hospitality sector in the Middle East and Africa and decreased occupancy rates in the UAE, Phillips said: “Promising news come from China confirming the country's rapid recovery. Although affected by the virus initially, hotel occupancy rates have returned to nearly 60%. Moreover, 87% of Chinese hotels have now returned to receive their visitors.”

The implementation of the new procedures is scheduled to commence in mid-April, as part of the ongoing efforts made by RAK TDA to emerge from this difficult period in collaboration with its partners.
